That’s why our habits are so fundamental in our self-development and life success. Most of us are starting our day in a rush. Having slept late the night before, we set about 5-6 alarms to be able to snooze and have an excuse to sleep a little longer until we are left with 20 minutes to wake up, dress up, and leave the house.

We often start our mornings with so much stress and overwhelm, making it nearly impossible to enjoy the rest of the day peacefully. Imagine how you’d feel if the very first day of the year was filled with stress and anxiety, making you think, “Oh no, if we started like this, what’s next?” Now, picture every single year kicking off that way—with stress, no plans, no goals, and no time to reassess or truly enjoy the start of a new era.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but that’s exactly what many of us do every single morning. And trust me, for cultivating strong midwife routines, it’s far worse than just having one stressful New Year’s Day (after all, that’s just one day, and a lot can change). Starting each morning in chaos sets a tone that can negatively impact your entire day, making it harder to focus, empathize, and perform at your best, which is essential in midwifery.

Success doesn’t magically appear by luck; it happens because people approach life differently. If you spend your whole day just reacting to whatever comes your way, that’s all you’ll ever do.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about waking up at 5 a.m. to boost productivity, but honestly, for strong midwife routines, I think it’s unnecessary unless you genuinely need to. Waking up at 5 a.m. Just to squeeze in a workout, work on your blog for a bit, and do some chores doesn’t always make sense.

Instead, consider waking up about 1.5 to 2 hours before you actually need to start your main tasks. For instance, if you need to be out the door by 7 a.m., then yes, a 5 a.m. Wake-up time makes perfect sense. But if your workday doesn’t kick off until 9 a.m., then waking up at 7 a.m. is often ideal. Even on days when I have nothing specific planned, I prefer waking up around 8 a.m. It’s early enough to align with my natural rhythm and still gives me the entire day to be productive.
